George Magoha Early Life Education

George Albert Omore Magoha born July 2 1952 in Kisumu Kenya overcame childhood asthma moving to Nairobi for better care. Attended Dr David Livingstone Primary School then excelled at Starehe Boys Centre for O-Levels and Strathmore School for A-Levels earning high school diploma. Pursued medicine at University of Lagos Nigeria training further in Ghana Ireland and United Kingdom specializing in urological surgery.

Early career began as intern at Lagos University Teaching Hospital rising to Senior Resident and Clinical Lecturer in Surgery. Served as lecturer and consultant surgeon across leading Nigerian hospitals building surgical expertise. Returned to Kenya in 1988 joining University of Nairobi as urological surgery lecturer advancing rapidly through academic ranks.

George Magoha University Leadership Achievements

Joined University of Nairobi in 1988 becoming full Professor of Surgery by 2000 after serving as Chairman of Academic Department of Surgery Dean of School of Medicine and Principal of College of Health Sciences. Appointed Vice Chancellor in January 2005 serving until 2015 transforming institution through strict discipline financial accountability and performance excellence. Revamped management eliminated student strikes restored academic integrity achieving excellent government ratings.

Pioneered research in male erectile dysfunction prostate testicular penile cancers circumcision and HIV AIDS. Concurrently worked as Consultant Urologist at Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital. Leadership extended internationally as President of Association of African Universities and Chairman of African Network of Scientific and Technological Institutions.

Appointed Chairman of Kenya National Examinations Council in 2016 dismantling exam cheating cartels restoring credibility to national assessments. Nominated Cabinet Secretary for Education in March 2019 serving until 2022 overseeing policy execution amid COVID-19 challenges.
