CaixaBank, S.A., is a Spanish multinational financial services company with headquarters in Valencia and Barcelona, Spain. It is considered one of Spain's largest lenders by market value.

History
The company's origins trace back to the merger of Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Barcelona, founded in 1844, and Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez y de Ahorros de Cataluña y Baleares, founded in 1904 by Francesc Moragas. The latter was initially called Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez(English: Old Age Pension Society) and opened to the public in 1905.

- 1904: Caja de Pensiones para la Vejezwas founded in Catalonia.
- 1905: Caja de Pensiones para la Vejezopened to the public.
- 1931: The first mortgage for the acquisition of CAIXA properties in Rio de Janeiro was signed.
- 1969: Caja de Pensionesbecame the first in Europe to begin real-time computerized tele-processing of transactions.
- 1975: Launch of the first credit cards.
- 1979: The first ATMs were introduced.
- 1990: Caja de Ahorros y Pensiones de Barcelonawas created from the merger of Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Barcelonaand Caja de Pensiones para la Vejez y de Ahorros de Cataluña y Baleares.
- 2007: The firm was formed as Criteria CaixaCorp, a publicly traded vehicle for La Caixa's shareholdings and investments.
- 2008: La Caixa bought part of Morgan Stanley's private banking business in Spain.
- 2011: Criteria was renamed CaixaBank as La Caixa's banking and insurance activities were merged into it.
- 2012: CaixaBank announced its intention to merge with Banca Cívica. The launch of two CaixaBank SICAVs marked another significant milestone in its evolution and commitment to the marketplace.
- 2013: Banco de Valencia's integration into CaixaBank became fully effective.
- 2018: CaixaBank Asset Management Luxembourg was created.
Operations
CaixaBank operates through Personal Banking and Business Banking segments. Personal Banking provides accounts, mortgages, insurance, and cards. Business Banking involves international banking services, cash assets, financing, cards, investments, foreign trade, insurance, and pensions.
CaixaBank Asset Management Group is part of the financial sector in Luxembourg. This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the establishment of CaixaBank Asset Management Luxembourg.
As of March 2024, CaixaBank SA has more than 35,000 employees. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the World’s Best Banks and one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world.
